Result: Alts win
Scores: Southwick cc 83 all out Alts 84 for 4 Win for Alts by 6 wickets
End of season spree
win number two
Is it a bird? is it a plane? no its Super Kurtis Clarke – and who on earth is that twerking in the background!!!
Surely – Champagne moment of the season?
A totally dominant bowling display by The Alternatives. A ferocious opening spell by Clarke (1-16) cleaned up the opposition skipper and the next bowlers tore into the timorous Southwick side. Bryden broke the curse of his new shoes (he started wearing them after his 7-wicket spell but the shoes caused a terrible wicket drought) and took 4 wickets for less runs (4-3).
The batting had an inglorious start. Chappell recorded an unenviable first for the Alternatives with a ‘diamond’ duck when he was run out by his pal and debutant, Walter, on the first ball of the innings. Walter appears to have misunderstood Chappell’s clear instructions that he had no intention of running quick singles, and then set out on a suicidal run when he knocked the ball to the nearest fielder.
But the Alts’ stalwart Score, making his return from a long honeymoon, guided the team to an easy victory with help from Walter (29). Score’s innings (41) included magnificent hitting in one over as he scored 22 off 4 balls (6-6-6-4) until he was bowled by the next ball.
Score goes “mahoosiff”!
Mr and Mrs Score – nice!!
Footnote:
A mesmerising piece of fielding by Clarke was this reporter’s champagne moment of the match (and possibly season). Southwick’s star batsman thrashed a towering shot to the edge of the boundary where Goodwin waited slightly in fear. Meanwhile, Clarke chased across the length of the outfield and dived full-length to take an astonishing catch right in front of the startled, but grateful, Goodwin. Has ever an Alts’ player moved so quickly whilst also taking such a difficult catch? (comparable to Bryden’s infamous take at gully versus the evil Cainers).
Attention all Alts
