Result: defeat – but only by a very small amount
Score: Alts got quite few runs. Headstone St George got a few more than us
STUMPGATE !!
It seems that there was a situation regarding stumps at the start of the match – there was none stumps !!
Unbeknownst to everyone our top of the range stumps were sitting in Green’s front room – whilst Green himself was in Portugal!!
Our best retail experts were sent into Brighton and surrounding areas to track down some new stumps.
Match Headlines provided by our very own “most improved player of the Year” Mel Mellowship:
We got some runs whilst batting
Then we fielded
Will Felce had to go to hospital for a sprained shoulder joint after only a couple of overs
Our 1st spell of bowling had them pinned down with wickets tumbling – they were 3 for 12 runs after 6 overs, and then 5 for 50 something.
(Dan 3, Rich 2 and Simon 1 taking wickets, ably supported by Paul and Dicken).
CAUGHT OLLIFF, BOWLED OLLIFF
With a superb catch in the field by young Henners, bowled by Olliff senior
A “wow” diving catch in the slips by our athletic captain, and a brilliant “non shall pass wicket keeping” performance from Ivan.
Unfortunately a heavy prolonged shower soddened the ball turning it into a lifeless pork pie and we found it hard to take more wickets.
So we were set for a dramatic finale, counting down their remaining overs and runs, down to 12 needed off the last 3 overs, but a couple of 4’s saw them over the line to victory.
